Welcome to your Junior Year!
College Checklists
If you are looking for a checklist to see what you can be doing from now until graduation, here are some things you can be doing.
-
Make sure you are on track! Check in with Mrs. Russell-Harris and see if you are meeting the requirements for graduation.
-
Register for the PSAT in the fall. Scores count for National Merit Scholar consideration.
-
Take the ACT or SAT in the spring. The state of Montana offers the ACT free to all juniors.
-
Narrow down career choices. Ask Mrs. Russell-Harris about Montana Career Information Systems.
-
Are you interested in work based learning? Ask about job shadowing, internships or apprenticeships.
-
Begin searching for scholarships which may help pay for school.
-
Attend Financial Aid nights or junior parent nights at CHS.
-
Create your FSA ID. Don't lose it, you will use it for Financial Aid application called FAFSA next year.
-
Visit college campuses!
-
Save for your education.
-
Volunteer and get involved in your community! Colleges look at volunteerism for admission and scholarships!
Researching Colleges
The College Board's BigFuture website is a great way to start your college search.
College Research Worksheet
Below is a link for a generic College Research Worksheet. I encourage you to make a copy of it and make it your own. It is often hard to remember what each college offers when you are researching and it helps to write it down as you go.
ACT/SAT
We recommend that students plan to take their ACT or SAT in the spring of their junior year. All schools across the nation accept either the ACT or SAT so it is your choice which one you want to take. You will need to sign up on your own. If you are on Free or Reduced Price Lunch you can get a fee waiver from Mrs. Russell-Harris.
